Започваме да представяме и филми на живо, от време на време. Ще се видим на 19 май в Културно пространство Бобина, където ще представим част от филмите на Фил Соломон и книгата, която е вдъхновение за това събитие, а именно двуезичното издание Still Raining, Still Dreaming: Film Meets Video Game.

Фил Соломон е режисьор, чиито филми сме искали да покажем и преди, но не сме могли поради неговото желание филмите му да бъдат гледани в добре познатото ни затъмнено пространство, осеяно със светлината на лъча от проектора. Но времената се менят и хората, които се грижат за запазването и разпространяването на филмите на Фил Соломон са решили да участват в колаборация със австрийските дистрибутори Sixpack, за да издадат публикацията Still Raining, Still Dreaming: Film Meets Video Game, която съдържа няколко текста за филмите на Фил Соломон, свързани с експериментите му с видео игри, както и линк за изтегляне на част от тези филми. Филмите на Соломон, които ще покажем на 19 май в Бобина са част от точно тези негови експерименти с видео игри, и по-специфично GTA, повечето, от които той прави след смъртта на негов близък приятел и колега, режисьорът Марк Лапор, и могат да бъдат разгледани като опит за преодоляване на скръбта.

Може да се каже, че творбите на Фил Соломон са изпълнени с поезия, но поезия без думи, такава, която изобразява необяснимото, преплитайки мрачна красота и доза
сюрреалистичен екзистенциализъм. Неговото международно признато творчество обхваща период от 45 години, и се посвещава на това да изследва киното като изкуство. Той е ученик на известния експериментален режисьор Кен Джейкъбс, както и приятел и колаборатор на Стан Бракедж.

След прожекцията ще проведем дискусия със Северина Станкева, докторантка по философия и с изследвания върху видеоигрите, както и небезизвестния киноман Марио Томчев.

We’re starting to host in-person film screenings, from time to time. On May 19 at Bobina Cultural Space we’ll be screening the some of the experimental films of Phil Solomon and we will be also presenting the book that inspired this event: the bilingual edition Still Raining, Still Dreaming: Film Meets Video Game.

Phil Solomon is a director whose films we’ve wanted to show before, but couldn’t because of his desire for his films to be viewed in the familiar darkened space, illuminated by the beam of the projector. But times are changing, and the people responsible for preserving and distributing Phil Solomon’s films have decided to collaborate with the Austrian distributors Sixpack to publish Still Raining, Still Dreaming: Film Meets Video Game, which contains a couple of texts on Phil Solomon’s films related to his experiments with video games, as well as a link to download some of these films.

Solomon’s films, which we will screen on May 19 at Bobbina, are part of precisely these experiments with video games—and more specifically, GTA—most of which he created following the death of his close friend and colleague, director Mark LaPore.

One could say that Phil Solomon’s works are imbued with poetry, but poetry without words—a poetry that depicts the inexplicable, intertwining dark beauty with a dose of surreal existentialism. His internationally acclaimed body of work spans a period of 45 years and is dedicated to exploring cinema as an art form. He is a student of the renowned experimental filmmaker Ken Jacobs, as well as a friend and collaborator of Stan Brakhage.

Following the screening, we will host a discussion with Severina Stankeva, a PhD candidate in philosophy specializing in video game studies, as well as the well-known cinephile Mario Tomchev.
